Jeanette Sherman

Jeanette started with Firestar Veterinary Services at its inception in 2019. She grew up on her family's dairy farm in Dryden, NY. Her passion for horses started at the early age of 5 when her uncle gifted her a pony. For several years she was riding and having fun. She taught herself how to ride and learned much about horses from watching the races. She has an AAS degree in Graphic Arts and Design from NY, including learning computer applications, setup and troubleshooting.
Jeanette worked in graphics, printing and newspapers for several years. But her real passion has always been working with horses. She left the busy world of deadlines choosing rather to hire on as caretaker of a large broodmare farm in Upstate NY. This is where she found her love of mares and foals and Thoroughbred racing.
Much of her time was spent trailering to Cornell University's Equine Hospital, bringing both mares and foals for emergency surgeries and procedures. Others times she was key assistant to the local veterinary on their calls to the farm. This is where Jeanette began to love the medicine and treatment side of horses. During this time she began developing her own herd of mares and producing foals at her farm. This proved to be a great deal of work with all the challenges of caring for horses, but she really enjoyed it and even produced some race winners!
She and her engineer husband, Joe, eventually left NY and headed South moving to Thomasville, GA. Then they moved again to settle at a small farm here in Catlett, VA. Jeanette brought her horses here from NY (where they were being cared for by her daughter) and has gained a few more including one donkey. Jeanette joined Firestar Veterinary Services to contribute her love and experience to all our clients’ horses with the same passion she had as a young girl.
